The Transitional Housing phase at The Carying Place empowers families to obtain stable housing while on their journey home. We start by identifying any barriers to housing stability, such as eviction or utility bill debt. While in our 16-week program, families live in one of our independent homes, rent-free and utility-free. During this time, families reunite and enjoy time doing family activities such as making dinner using the provided cookware.
Each family has TCP staff and volunteer support to coach them as they progress through our Journey Home curriculum. Participants are encouraged to adhere to their custom budget and save money weekly for their escrow account, which is returned at the end of the program.
We assist families in preparing housing applications, guiding them on where to apply, and connecting them to other community housing resources.
At the end of the 16-week program, families can take household goods, including bedding and kitchenware, with them into their new home.
Upon graduation, we continue to support families by providing coaching, advanced budgeting opportunities, credit score acumen, and workforce development to increase wages and prepare them for future homeownership.
