Journey to Homeownership: A Pathway for TCP Families
At The Carying Place, we believe that homeownership is more than just owning a house—it is about creating a stable, secure foundation for families to thrive. We are committed to helping families who have experienced homelessness and have successfully completed our Transitional Housing Program, transition to homeownership through a supportive, step-by-step process.
This program helps families build a sustainable path toward owning a home, offering the guidance, resources, and support needed to turn their dream into a reality.
Eligibility
- Families who have completed our 16-week Transitional Housing Program.
- If a family meets eligibility, we invite them to take the next step in their journey to homeownership with us. We provide support at every stage, ensuring they have the tools and resources to succeed.
Assessment and Support
We begin by understanding the family’s current situation, including housing needs, financial situation, credit, and long-term goals. Our dedicated case management staff will assess the family’s readiness for homeownership and connect them with services that will support them, including:
- Temporary Housing Solutions: Short-term and affordable options to maintain housing stability while working towards homeownership.
- Financial Coaching: Assistance with budgeting, saving for a down payment, building credit, and managing any existing debts.
- Employment Support: Career advancement support, including skill development, resume enhancement, and access to certification programs, to help individuals secure higher-paying jobs and expand their employment opportunities.
- Life Skills Training: Workshops that focus on managing household responsibilities, childcare, and utilizing community resources.
- Homebuyer Education Classes: TCP covers the cost of workshops offered by our community partners that cover every aspect of the home buying process—from choosing a home to understanding mortgage options and closing costs.
- Partnership with Lenders: We work with mortgage lenders who specialize in first-time buyers, particularly those with low income, limited credit histories or financial challenges.
- Down Payment Assistance: Access to grants or low-interest loans that can help cover upfront costs when purchasing a home.
- Post-Purchase Support: After purchasing the home, TCP offers ongoing support to help families maintain financial stability and succeed as a homeowner.
